Pierre-Henri Ducommun is a violinist, composer, and conductor. He has taught violin at the Conservatoire of La Chaux-de-Fonds, and music at the lycée Blaise-Cendrars. He is known for having conducted the orchestra of La Chaux-de Fonds, as well as the instrumental ensemble of Neuchâtel, both for many years.
As a composer, he has written many chamber music works: duos, trios, quartets, and a quintet for winds. His works for orchestra include an overture (King Gilgamesh), the Scherzo Diabolico, and a small Symphonic Poem. His concertos include the Concerto for Four Violins and Strings, the Concertino for English horn, and the Eneris Project (two pieces for violin and orchestra).
Pierre-Henri Ducommun studied violin with Hans-Heinz Schneeberger and conducting with Robert Faller and Igor Markévitch.
Since retiring, Pierre-Henri Ducommun has concentrated on composing and playing repertory drawing on traditional music from the Balkans and South America.
